Posted on 26 August 2015

Mid-autumn Festival is unanimously synonymous with reunion and auspiciousness, and a traditional occasion to sit down, enjoy slices of mooncakes with a cup of Oolong tea with your family. As the festive season comes swinging in full force, Singapore’s mooncakes took it up a notch, regardless of its flavor or packaging. Here is a list of the top 15 mooncakes or mooncakes sets that we adore.

1. Park Hotel Group

Classical White Lotus Paste with Six Yolks Mooncake

Park Hotel’s Group realizes the significance of this special festival, therefore focusing on a traditional mooncake that embodies kinship and reunion. This larger-than-usual mooncake features a fresh filling made of high-grade lotus paste and six salted egg yolks. Other than the classic white lotus paste, it comes in Teochew Mung Bean flavor and also Red Bean and Winter Melon. More inclined to alternative flavors? Then go for their exquisitely crafted snowskin mooncakes such as Apple with Cherry Brandy Truffle and Royal Topaz with Nougat & Chocolate Pops.

Mooncakes? Cupcakes? Mooncakes cupcakes? Yes, mooncakes cupcakes. Food mashups are so in the trend right now that everything can be thought of, so it’s only time that mooncakes cupcakes are in the market these days. After two years of mooncake cupcakes sold, A.Hans Bakes came up with 4 other variations, namely Orh-ni, Matcha Azuki, Pandan Chocolate and Durian. These refined-looking baked goods consist of paste stuffed in fluffy cupcakes and then topped with cream cheese. And oh, not to forget how lovely they look!

6. Raffles Hotel

This year, Raffles Hotel relaunches their signature snowskin mooncake set – a winning combination of traditional Chinese and classic English. One such example is the Snow-Skin Earl Grey Tea and Pearl Truffle Mooncake with its core a rich milk chocolate truffle infused with premium earl grey tea, and studded with tiny, dark chocolate-coated cereal puffs for a delicate crunch. The Snow-Skin Raffles Cognac Truffle Mooncake would be pleasing to the tastebuds, for it boasts a slightly bitter dark chocolate center with a kick of brandy without being too overwhelming. Among 6 of their snowskin mooncakes, the Snow-Skin Champagne Truffle and Ganache Mooncake would be the most iconic and original creation, containing creamy white lotus paste with a Champagne white chocolate truffle at its heart.

7. Sucre

Mooncakes are often savored in between sips of Chinese tea, but what about a union between these two? Sucre, well-known for their gourmet pineapple truffles, makes a hybrid between two most traditional teas – Oolong with Pu-er and Oolong with Osmanthus – with premium grade lotus paste, which makes a lovely option when you want to indulge in something just a little different. Creating a contrast with their varieties of traditional baked mooncakes such as White Lotus Seed Paste with Macadamia Nuts and Premium Red Bean Paste with Melon Seeds, the contemporary-designed gift box that comes with every four mooncakes purchased manifests the impression of mid-autumn. Also, their last year’s best-selling White Lotus Seed Paste with Cherries returns this year to stand hand-in-hand with the perennial favorite, White Lotus Seed Paste with Pineapple and Single Yolk.
