The ringing bells of the Lunar New Year is near, and a Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant that serves up authentic Sichuan Cantonese cuisine for the CNY celebrations? We’re on, and here’s an unravelation of what we thought of Peony Jade’s 2018 menu!

Starting off the menu is a crisp and addictive appetizer, Caramelised Eel, that makes great finger food that satisfies the itchiness of your hands.

Peony Jade’s sumptuous ‘Prosperity & Smooth Sailing’ Australian Premium Whole Abalone Poon Choi (玉凤凰展鸿图, 献生财聚宝盆) contains 18 premium ingredients such as whole 8-head Australian abalones, ½ roasted goose, a whole pork knuckle, golden oysters, roast pork, South African sea cucumber, fresh whole scallops, pork tendons, fatt choy, fish maw, king-sized prawns, whole Shiitake mushrooms, homemade sea-grouper mousse cake, whole golden dried conpoy.

Revel in a luxurious goodness of premium ingredients that are beautifully coated with a rich and thick gravy. The doneness of each and every ingredient was impeccable The Australian abalones have great texture, and are tender yet chewy. A shout-out for the prawns though – probably marinated or coated with a delish sauce – were very much flavourful and we loved them! Now, you might think of a takeaway poon choi instead, because Peony Jade is currently offering a great value-for-money poon choi package that comes with 5 complimentary delectable dishes:

  • Norwegian sashimi-grade salmon “Fa Cai” yu sheng with organic farmed tender radish
    and golden roe;

  • “Pot of Abundance Wealth” poached black truffle gyoza, bird’s nest and premium fish
    maw stuffed with minced prawn in rich chicken consommé;

  • Poached corn-fed chicken flavoured in rich dark soya sauce;
  • Claypot jasmine rice with Chinese sausages and homemade air-dried duck drumstick in
    lotus leaf, and

  • “Bountiful Treasures” chilled cream of mango with sago pearls and pomelo.

Priced at S$518.88 for the Mini Premium Pot Package (serves 6 guests), and S$748.88 for the Premium Pot Package (serves 8-10 guests). 1-day advance order is required. Available for takeaways at all Peony Jade Restaurants and Takashimaya B2’s festive market.

With lobster from Canada 加拿大龙虾, sliced premium 2-head golden abalone from Australia, Japanese Amberjack (hamachi) carpaccio, tuna (sashimi-grade), Norwegian salmon (sashimi-grade), pan-seared Hokkaido scallops, jellyfish, wakame, unami, crispy silver baits, topped with champagne jelly, French caviar, golden fish roes, lychee pops and edible 18k gold leaves to indulge in, we are certain you would not want to miss this deluxe Pooch-shaped Flowing Prosperity Gold Rush Yu Sheng! Priced at S$268.88++, this gluten free yusheng serves up to 10-12 guests, and is available for dine-in only at Peony Jade @ Keppel Club. 1-day advance order is required.

Having had the Deep-fried ‘Abundance Wealth’ Crispy Angus Beef Brisket With Tamarind Sauce, we thought the brisket was a tad disappointing as it is a little on the tough and dry side. However, the tamarind and ‘ma-la’ chilli sauce managed to make up to the overall taste of the dish.

The ‘Reaping Prosperity’ Deep-fried Australian Fresh Jumbo Oysters-on-shell With Jinhua Ham Infused with Cha-Siu were fresh and sweet, and leaves a lovely crunch and taste that further amplified with a splash of home-blended vinegar. An interesting combination indeed! Priced at S$48.88++ (minimum of 3 guests is required), and is available for dine-in only at Peony Jade @ Keppel Club. 1-day advance order is required.

The ‘Good Fortune’ Baked Whole Corn-fed Chicken With Organic Fermented Black Garlic was extremely tender to the bite and very much delish. As garlicky as it sounds, we must say that the organic fermented black garlic is the main lead of the dish – without being too overpowering and heavy.

Not forgetting the limited desserts available at Peony Jade which includes the rich and creamy Signature Pure Mao Shan Wang Durian Layered Gold Bar Nian Gao, the Limited Edition Lantern of ‘Overflowing Wealth’ Gift Set containing mochi-skin wrapped peach-shaped nian gao beautifully handcrafted by Peony Jade’s pastry master chef, Wong Kok Shyong and a Limited Edition Longevity & ‘Huat Huat’ Gift Set that dog lovers will definitely love – featuring 9 handcrafted mochi fortune ʻpoochesʼ filled with mandarin orange and valrhona dark bittersweet chocolate.

Pre-orders for takeaways and, reservations for dine-ins are highly recommended. Not to worry, Peony Jade is open throughout the Lunar New Year period!
