We started off with the appetiser, Grilled Lobster which was very plump and fresh. Nicely grilled with a garlicky seasoning that wasn’t too overpowering the hand-sized lobster came topped with melted cheese and was one of the highlights of the evening. Available on Mondays for only $9.99 as part of the daily specials, we definitely recommend trying this bargain of a deal.Up next was the Grilled Satay. A mix of pork and chicken they were paired with cucumbers, onions and delectable sweet and savoury peanut sauce. The perfect charring and smoky aroma made them irresistible and the perfect dish to kick off the evening with.
The Carne Meat Luncheon Fries was the third and final appetiser we tried. With a cold pint of beer, the combination of these fries is unbeatable. They were savoury, salty, caramelised and perfectly crispy on the outside and came with a spicy dipping sauce which we felt resembled the chipotle sauce.
With the hotel’s daily specials of House Pour Beer & Wine on Tuesdays at only $5, diners can easily pair these appetisers with the hotel’s extensive wine and beer options and can relish in their amazing flavours and textures.
As part of their specially curated Italian dishes, the hotel offers Make-Your-Own-Pasta where diners can select from 4 freshly homemade pasta and 4 selections of sauces. We tried the Spinach Fettuccine with Ocean Prawn, Tomato, Garlic, Chilli and Parsley sauce. The rich creamy flavourful sauce made this whole Italian affair truly delightful and memorable.
Now, moving onto the mains, we tried the two combo sets from the Josper Grill Signatures. Fired by charcoal and smoked applewood, the open-grill offers a selection of sharing platters suitable for a group of 4-5 people. We had the Meat Combo platter first which consisted of Duck Leg Confit, Baby Spring Chicken, German Sausage, and USA Angus Beef Striploin. As expected the meat was beautifully charred, succulent, juicy, tender and aromatic.
The Seafood Combo is the second combo set, which came with a Jumbo Tiger Prawn, Norwegian Salmon, Mediterranean Octopus Tentacle, and Crispy Calamari. The perfectly grilled items deliciously relayed the freshness and the flavours of the ocean. Both the combos also came with a choice of two sides and one sauce. For those who’d love to indulge in some seafood but don’t have that big an appetite can do so on Wednesdays with the hotel’s $1 Snow Crab Leg daily specials. And on Fridays, diners can get a bottle of M Wine for just $18 with any purchase of Josper Grill Combo.
Just as we thought we were done with Seafood for the night, we were pleasantly surprised with the Seafood Mountain platter. Available only on the weekends and public holidays, this daily special dish consists of Snow Crab Legs, Mussels, Half-Shell Scallops, Fresh Oysters, Tiger Prawns, Cherry Clams, and Ocean Whelks. Well worth the price of just $48, diners can’t opt for a better way to welcome the weekend and experience the taste of the ocean. We felt that this dish is a meal all by itself, more than enough for two people. But, hey if you are a true seafood lover then, by all means, go for it, you won’t regret it.
After loosening up our belts, it was finally time to end the evening on a sweet note by indulging in some memorable desserts. First up we had Chocolate Baked Alaska. The showmanship is strong with this one. The chef coated the dessert with some rum and set alight, so before you go for a bite, take out your phone, tap open the camera and record the spectacle that is this flambéed version. Consisting of ice cream and cake topped with meringue we were able to taste the varied textures and the combination with rum made this dessert both aesthetically and tastebud pleasing.
Chef’s Freshly-Made Signature Tiramisu was the second and final dessert we tried. Presenting it as a mini terrarium within a transparent dome-shaped container, each spoonful was truly pleasant and justified the chef’s creative spin on a classic. On Thursdays, with the Ladies Night daily specials at just $1, ladies can pair these toothsome deserts with a one hour free flow.
