Why M Social Should Be Your Next Staycation Spot?

Posted on 24 March 2020

We’re just three months into this new year, and wow already so much has happened. Saying that these three months have been anything but relaxed wouldn’t be an understatement. Millennium group’s We Care. We Clean. We Welcome initiative reaffirmed our desire to head over to the M Social hotel for a perfect much-needed staycation. So, after finally deciding on a befitting weekend, we were off to loosen up, sit back and get pampered by all the that M Social had to offer.

The hotel is conveniently located at Robertson Quay and if you love aesthetically pleasing designs then boy are you in for a treat. Designed by Philippe Starck, the captivating vibrant interiors and a perfect mix of modern and quirky-ness bring forth the uniqueness of the hotel. Also, not being so casual about the times we are living in presently, we found solace in the hotel’s We Clean. We Care. We Welcome initiative. The apparent display of this undertaking was very evident the moment we stepped into the hotel and were all set to check-in.

The hotel has 293 rooms and two categories of rooms, namely; Alcove & Loft. With the former having two options and the later comprising three rooms. For our staycation, we chose the Loft Terrace Room. Who wouldn’t want to vacay in a duplex? Even if it’s only for the weekend. It’s a “Loft” Come on. First things first, we had to of course check-in before we could do everything else. The check-in process was smooth and the hotel staff was extremely charming and friendly. We also had our temperature checked and filled a health declaration form. To further display their commitment and provide us with peace of mind, the hand sanitizers were made available at every check-in counter. Now, we were ready to officially begin our staycation.

Right then, the loft room truly met each and every one of our expectations. Honestly the first thing we said, well actually exclaimed, “wow” as soon as we stepped into the room. It indeed is modern and basks in its’ open-concept layout. The tall floor to ceiling windows gave the room a natural glow if you will, and the view from those windows was also captivating. The furniture was as expected quirky and fun at the same time, while the mix of wood and stainless steel interior pleased us tremendously aesthetically. The first floor houses all the amenities, such as the bathroom, sofa, tea-making stations, tv and such. The second floor was all bed. Yes, a cozy space meant to lay down on what surprisingly was quite a comfortable bed. Some people might find watching TV and being unable to lay in the bed at the same time a bit odd, but who watches TV anyway. Hello Netflix, Hello Laptop. Since ours was a terrace room, we also had a terrace or as we liked to refer it to a “cozy terrace”. Once we were done with our afternoon nap, we went down to explore.

On the ground floor, we found the hotel’s Asian-fusion restaurant, Beasts & Butterflies and bar. The moment we entered the restaurant we were enthralled by the chic modern chandeliers, quirky TV screen lighted tabletops and artsy lava lamps. Not only was the food tempting, but also the Instagram worthy design. Yes, we ended up taking quite a few pictures, well maybe more than a few. Also, there are contemporary art videos being displayed on the tablets which are lined up on a wall.

After having our fill of aesthetics, we were invited by the mixologist Vlad, to concoct our very own special cocktail, “Elixir” (which basically means a liquid, with a magical power to cure, improve or preserve something). So, yes we were excited to try our hands-on making this cocktail which consisted of guava juice, lemon, gin, ginger, and almond. With ingredients that are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. This cocktail couldn’t have been any more seasonal.
So, we picked our cocktails and decided to head on out to the alfresco dining area. Seemed like the weather gods were pleased by us, as the cool breeze and the sunny sky couldn’t have felt any more beautiful and perfect. After relishing in the amazing freshness of the cocktail and watching the sun go down, it was time for dinner.

With the sanitizers being ubiquitous, we sanitized our hands and were all set to indulge and taste some delicious dishes. Two of our favourite dishes of the night were their signature “Ham Hock” & the “Lobster Porridge”.

The ham hock is a crispy German Pork Knuckle which is paired with Asian sauerkraut and Thai Nam Jim sauce as a dip. The crispy skin and the juicy, tender pork meat paired with the sourness and the mild spice of sauce further enhance the experience and elevates the flavour of the dish. We are still salivating just by thinking about it. The Teochew-style lobster rice porridge comes with baby abalone and scallion and was packed with rich seafood aroma. This tender delicacy made perfect comfort food to end our night.

The next morning we decided to make the most of the hotel’s amenities and after discussing whether to go to the gym or to the pool, we eventually went for a dip in the outdoor lap pool and later soaked some sun in the comfy sunbeds. Feeling hungry after the swim, it was time to head back to the restaurant for some breakfast.
Serving up a mix of local and continental cuisine, the breakfast spread offers something for everyone. We chose to power up for the day with some dumplings, noodles, eggs and hash browns. With a heart filled with love and many new memories, this staycation couldn’t have been more perfect and comforting. The precautionary measures, easy accessibility of hand sanitizers and the thorough cleaning and sanitizing of our room offered us a peace of mind and complete confidence and reassurance to make the most of our staycation.
