As more Singaporeans are now choosing to dine-in, Beast and Butterflies at M Social Hotel, located at the quaint Robertson Quay, couldn’t have picked a better time to enliven their all-day dining programme with new concepts and innovative menu. Helmed by Executive Chef Bryce Li, the refreshed all-day dining menu’ approach is one that is open and receptive and where dishes with French European influence to local signatures are prepared in a modern way. It’s the perfect way to take your tastebuds on a globetrotting trip, and we were lucky enough to embark on this tasteful journey. Some of the notable additions were 3 Cup Lobster In Claypot, Lobster Bisque, Molten Chocolate Cake, and Molten Cheese Cake. Diners can also take comfort in the fact that the restaurant is SG Clean Certified and has adopted numerous precautionary measures to ensure a delightful dining experience.
To start, we were served the 1 Metre Board, which had 5 cold cuts and 5 kinds of cheese. The restaurant offers a wide selection of both the cold cuts and the cheeses. Diners can choose any 5 of their choice, or they can opt for a Half Meter Board and choose any 3. The board also comes with a fresh baguette bread basket, olives, gherkin, crackers, dried fruits, honey, mixed nuts, and Pommery mustard. So, cheese lovers can mix and match with various flavours and texture combinations.
For starters, we had the healthier option of Quinoa Tabbouleh. The simple mix of ingredients like sea salt, lemon juice, olive oil, feta cheese, garlic, and mint leaves made the dish light and refreshing and helped open up our appetite.
Next, we moved onto trying the soups. For those who love a good onion soup, the Classic Onion Soup will give you all the depth of flavours. The caramelized onions added a naturally sweet taste to the soup and we thoroughly enjoyed the richness of beef consommé and the satisfaction of a gratinated Gruyère crouton.
The second soup we had was the Lobster Bisque and was the one we preferred. This creamy bowl of goodness, topped with herbalicious seasoning, consisted of diced lobster pieces, which made each spoonful more and more delicious.
After the starters and soups, it was time to indulge in some mouth-watering main dishes. We began this course by trying the restaurants’ Charcoal Grilled, which is a treat for meat lovers. Served on a half meter board, the meats offered to us were char-grilled Kurobuta Pork, Chicken, and Striploin. We particularly enjoyed and relished in the tender, juicy, and well-seasoned pork and beef pieces. Each choice of meat came with a chosen sauce and sides such as Ratatouille, Mushroom Fricassée, Creamy Spinach, and more. Grilled to perfection, this is an ideal dish to share over some drinks.
Now it was finally time to satiate our cravings from the Local Delights section of the menu. We were truly curious to know what this fusion of local and international flavours would taste like. First up was the Kurobuta Claypot Rice. Marked as ‘chef’s recommendation’ in the menu, the braised kurobuta pork belly served with a soft boiled egg completely lived up to our expectations. The tender and flavourful pork meat was infused with the claypot burnt aroma, which was palpable with each bite. This dish resembled the Taiwanese favourite Lu Rou Fan dish and offered the same feeling of comfort.
3 Cup Lobster In Claypot was the next dish we tried, and it absolutely blew our minds and knocked our socks off. It was soooo good that we can still vividly remember the taste, texture, and everything about this dish. An innovative east-meets-west fusion of the traditional Taiwanese dish, 3 cup chicken, this dish swaps the chicken for fresh, flavour-packed with appetising sauce, tender Maine lobster. Aromatically tempting and visually-appealing, the dish was served in a sizzling hot claypot and tasted heavenly with a plate of warm white rice. For us, this dish was one of the highlights and the one we would gladly revisit again and again and again for.
After some gratifying savoury dishes, we were all set to take pleasure in some desserts and satisfy our sweet palate.
Before diving in to try the first of three desserts, the Molten Chocolate Cake, we spent a few minutes admiring the genius it took to combine the mini Magnum ice cream with the oozy chocolate. Departing from the usual choco lava cake, this is one of the most exciting desserts we’ve had in some time, and we strongly suggest you try.
The Molten Cheese Cake made with rich cream cheese, and Valdeón cheese offered a strong taste, which is bound to make all the Cheese lovers rejoice and end their dining experience on a delectable cheesy note.
Lastly, we had the Orh Nee Brûlée. A French twist on the traditional orh nee, the luscious yam paste swirled with pumpkin beneath the bruleed crust made for a smooth and creamy dessert.
With a revamped menu full of new delicious dishes that are innovative and are designed to appease all manners of cravings, Beast and Butterflies is an ideal spot for lunch or dinner to tantalise your tastebuds and satisfy your palate with some enticing, delicious and memorable food.
