Google “Wagyu Roast Beef Donburi” and you can most probably find a good number of Japanese restaurants in Singapore selling them. But an affordable bowl of Wagyu Roast Beef Donburi sold in a hawker centre? You can get yours for just $10 at Gyu Nami!
The Australian Wagyu Beef was slow roasted to medium rare perfection and thinly sliced. According to one of the owners, three types of sauces are used in this dish: Spicy Sriracha Sauce for the rice, Sake Onion Sauce for the beef slices and the Yogurt Sesame Sauce that tops it off.
Raw egg yolk was originally used on their first day of opening, but many left feedback worrying that it might not be safe to eat. Hence, it’s a sous-vide egg that you see in this dish. The slices were extremely tender to the mouth but we felt there could be a little more addition of the Sake Onion Sauce or Yogurt Sesame Sauce to make the beef slices less dry and tastier.
Comparing it to its other hawker food companions, the Wagyu Roast Beef Donburi is on the pricier side. However, it is definitely value for money with its generous portions of beef!
