The story of COCA
COCA is a family-run Bangkok restaurant brand that grew from a small Cantonese eatery in 1957 into one of the best-known names in Thai suki, the Thai take on communal hotpot. Singapore was its first market outside Thailand, and it has served Thai-style steamboat here since 1987.
- 1957: Srichai Phanphensophon and his wife Patama open a small Cantonese restaurant with about 20 seats in Bangkok, the start of COCA.
- 1984: The founders' son, Pitaya Phanphensophon, takes over the family business and later sets up COCA Holdings International to manage the restaurants.
- 1987: COCA opens in Singapore, its first restaurant outside Thailand.
- 1994: Pitaya Phanphensophon launches a sister brand, the Thai restaurant Mango Tree, in a former mansion in Bangkok's Silom district across from a COCA outlet.
- 2013: COCA reaches the Philippines through a franchise partner, opening at SM Aura Premier in Taguig with Pitaya on hand for the launch.
- 2026: COCA's long-running restaurant at Takashimaya (Ngee Ann City) closes on 14 June 2026 after about three decades, leaving Suntec City as its Singapore base.
