Your questions answered
What are the best halal restaurants in Singapore?
Well-known picks include Hjh Maimunah for nasi padang, Zam Zam for murtabak, Bismillah Biryani (Michelin Bib Gourmand 2026) for biryani, The Dim Sum Place for halal dim sum, and Carousel and StraitsKitchen for halal-certified hotel buffets. For halal fine dining or a special occasion, The Malayan Council, Charr'd and Gyusei Gyukatsu are popular choices.
What is the difference between MUIS-certified and Muslim-owned restaurants?
A MUIS-certified restaurant holds a halal certificate from the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), which covers its ingredients, suppliers and kitchen processes. A Muslim-owned restaurant is run by Muslims and usually serves no pork or lard, but it has not necessarily been audited or certified. You can check any outlet in the MUIS halal directory at halal.muis.gov.sg. Certification is per outlet, so one branch of a chain can be certified while another is not.
Are there halal fine dining restaurants in Singapore?
Yes. The Malayan Council markets itself as refined halal dining and has outlets including one at Fullerton Waterboat House. Charr'd serves halal-certified A5 wagyu, and Gyusei Gyukatsu serves A5 wagyu gyukatsu. Hotel buffets such as Carousel, StraitsKitchen and Peppermint are halal-certified options for celebrations. See our separate halal fine dining guide for more.
How much does a meal at a halal restaurant in Singapore cost?
Hawker and casual meals such as nasi lemak, prata or nasi padang cost from around $2-10. Mid-range restaurants like The Dim Sum Place, Restaurant Aisyah or Jiak Modern Tze Char are typically around $15-35 a head. Hotel buffets start from around $72++ per adult, and A5 wagyu at Charr'd starts from around $38 per 100g.
Which area in Singapore has the most halal food?
Kampong Glam (Arab Street, Bussorah Street and North Bridge Road near Bugis MRT) has the densest cluster, from Zam Zam and The Ramen Stall to Positano Risto and Restaurant Aisyah. Geylang Serai and Joo Chiat in the east, Orchard's hotel buffets, and Cheong Chin Nam Road in Bukit Timah are other strong areas.
Which halal restaurants in Singapore are open late?
The Ramen Stall opens until 1am (2am on Fridays and Saturdays), Al-Azhar in Bukit Timah until 1:30am-3am, Spize at Simpang Bedok until 2am-3am, and The Dim Sum Place on North Bridge Road until 12:30am on Fridays and Saturdays. Springleaf Prata Place's outlet at NEWest mall in West Coast is open 24 hours.
Do I need to book halal restaurants in Singapore?
Book ahead for hotel buffets (Carousel, StraitsKitchen, Peppermint) and for dinner at sit-down restaurants such as The Malayan Council, Charr'd and Gyusei, especially on weekends and during Ramadan and Hari Raya. Hawker stalls and casual spots such as Hjh Maimunah, Zam Zam and Selera Rasa are walk-in only. Go early, because popular dishes sell out.
Is there halal Chinese food or dim sum in Singapore?
Yes. The Dim Sum Place (halal-certified according to Time Out) and Tang Tea House serve halal dim sum, Jiak Modern Tze Char serves halal-certified zi char in Hillview, and Muslim-owned Restaurant Aisyah on Arab Street serves Xinjiang-style hand-pulled noodles and dumplings.
