The story of Kenny Rogers Roasters

Kenny Rogers Roasters is a rotisserie-chicken chain that began in the US, and in 2008 control of its franchisor passed to an Asia-based owner. Singapore diners have known it for rotisserie chicken and corn muffins since the mid-1990s, and in 2019 it came back under a new local franchisee with a halal-certified menu.

  • 1994: The chain opened its first outlet in Singapore and then expanded to sites including Suntec City, Holland Village and Tampines.
  • 2008: Nathan's Famous sold the brand's franchisor, NF Roasters Corp., to Roasters Asia Pacific (Cayman) Limited, which was already its master developer in Malaysia, so control of the brand passed to Asia.
  • 2019: Kenny Rogers Roasters pulled out of Singapore when its last outlet, at Great World City, closed on 14 April 2019, and days later Lao Huo Tang Group was announced as the new master franchisee.
  • 2019: The brand returned to Singapore on 6 October 2019 with a halal-certified fast-casual outlet in the basement of Jem in Jurong.
  • 2020: The Tampines outlet at Century Square was certified halal.

Did you know?

  • In Singapore the chain is best known for rotisserie chicken and corn muffins, and its pre-2019 menu also featured baby back ribs and macaroni and cheese.
  • Lao Huo Tang Group, which took over the Singapore franchise in 2019, also runs a chain of Chinese soup restaurants.
  • For the halal relaunch, the Singapore menu dropped its pork rib dishes and switched to halal suppliers, keeping the original recipes but cutting prices.
