The story of LeVeL33

LeVeL33 is a microbrewery and restaurant that brews its own beer in copper kettles on the 33rd floor of Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 1, and pairs it with beer-led modern cooking and a serious wine list. Austrian entrepreneur Dr Martin Bém opened it in 2010, before the Marina Bay district had filled in, and in 2025 Guinness World Records named it the highest microbrewery in a building.

  • 1999: Founder Martin Bém, an economist from Vienna, moved to Singapore to head San Pellegrino's local operations, then left to start his own business importing European food and drink brands.
  • 2010: About eight tonnes of Vienna-made brewing equipment, too big for the building's lifts, was lifted up the side of MBFC Tower 1 by a crane and taken in through an opening cut in the glass facade.
  • 2010: LeVeL33 opened on the top floor of Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 1. It was one of the first tenants in a district that was still being built, so early guests and even taxi drivers often struggled to find it.
  • 2019: The venue reopened after a major renovation that split it into a dining room, a lounge called LeVeL33 Social, and an outdoor terrace.
  • 2024: Guinness World Records verified the brewery's height at 149.321 metres, which made it the highest microbrewery in a building.
  • 2025: A Guinness adjudicator presented the record at an official ceremony, and LeVeL33 marked it with a special Blond Lager label carrying the Guinness logo.
  • 2025: LeVeL33 turned 15, and the founder described the Guinness record as an anniversary gift to the team.

Did you know?

  • Founder Dr Martin Bém holds a PhD in economics from Vienna. Before LeVeL33 he started the Bavarian-style restaurant Brotzeit, and he leads Ponte Group, the company behind LeVeL33.
  • The name refers to the venue's location on the 33rd floor of MBFC Tower 1.
  • Bém wanted to go beyond the usual pub-grub craft beer bar, so he designed a brewery that serves its beer alongside fine dining and a strong wine list. The kitchen's 'ContemBrewery' cooking uses brewing by-products such as spent grain.
  • Brewmaster Gabriel Garcia created the signature Brut, a strong beer fermented a second time in the bottle with Champagne yeast. It grew out of LeVeL33's partnership with Barons de Rothschild Champagne.
  • The tanks and copper kettles were custom-made by Salm & Co in Vienna.
