The story of No Signboard Seafood
No Signboard Seafood began as a seafood stall at the Mattar Road hawker centre run by Mdm Ong Kim Hoi. It had no sign, so regulars came up with the name, and the white pepper crab she created took it from hawker stall to restaurant chain and a stock-exchange listing.
- 1970s: Mdm Ong Kim Hoi started a seafood stall without a signboard at Mattar Road Hawker Centre; the brand's own site places this in the late 1970s.
- 2011: The family business, then made up of eight restaurants in Singapore and Jakarta, opened its first Hong Kong outlet on Paterson Street in Causeway Bay.
- 2017: No Signboard Holdings listed on the SGX Catalist board on 30 November 2017. It planned to use the IPO money on its Draft Denmark beer, casual-dining restaurants and ready meals.
- 2022: After closing its VivoCity restaurant in November 2021 and with Covid still weighing on the business, the listed group asked for its shares to be suspended. Trading stopped on 24 January 2022.
- 2024: The SGX regulator cleared the listed company to resume trading in March 2024. At that point its only remaining seafood restaurant was in Geylang.
