The story of RISE
RISE is the all-day dining room in the Tower 1 lobby of Marina Bay Sands, best known for its international buffet since the integrated resort's first months. It has reinvented itself several times, from a nature-themed 2017 makeover to a local-classics a la carte stint and a Southeast Asian buffet, before settling back into a broad international spread.
- 2011: Early reviews show RISE already running a daily international buffet with Asian, Indian, Japanese, Western carvery and seafood sections, priced at $45++ for lunch and $68++ for dinner.
- 2017: After a major renovation and short closure, RISE reopened with a greenery-filled, sustainability-inspired interior and its own herb garden supplying the kitchen.
- 2019: RISE ran a limited-time Canadian produce buffet theme, with meat dishes created by Marina Bay Sands culinary chief Brian Cleere, an example of its rotating themed spreads.
- 2021: RISE dropped its buffet and switched to a la carte and family set menus built around more than 35 Singapore hawker and home-style classics developed by seven local chefs.
- 2022: The buffet returned with a Southeast Asian concept covering Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Singaporean and Peranakan stations, led by executive chef Colin Thumboo.
- 2026: A mid-2026 review describes RISE as an international buffet again, with more than 100 dishes spanning seafood on ice, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, Middle Eastern and carvery stations.
Did you know?
- The restaurant keeps its own herb garden, whose herbs go into both dishes and the bar's cocktails and mocktails.
- Some of the local chefs behind the 2021 Singapore-classics menu had worked at RISE for more than ten years, among them senior sous chef Danny Yong.
