The story of Suki-Ya
Suki-Ya is a Singapore-born sukiyaki and shabu-shabu buffet from local restaurant group Creative Eateries, not a franchise imported from Japan. It grew into a regional chain and today runs three outlets in Singapore.
- 1992: Anthony Wong founded Creative Eateries, which started with a restaurant called Hot Stones in Holland Village.
- After 2007: Inspired by a yakiniku meal in Tokyo, Wong moved the group into Japanese dining, opening Tajimaya and then Suki-Ya at Marina Square.
- 2019: Suki-Ya had about 20 outlets across Singapore, Malaysia and Taipei, according to its founder.
- 2025: Japan's Skylark group bought the company running Suki-Ya's Malaysian outlets.
- 2025: Asia White Knight Group acquired Creative Eateries, Suki-Ya's parent company.
- 2026: Suki-Ya runs three Singapore outlets: Bugis+, Marina Square and Plaza Singapura.
Did you know?
- Creative Eateries' other brands include Tajimaya Yakiniku, Bangkok Jam and Sarai.
- Despite the similar name, there is no known link between Suki-Ya and Sukiya, the Japanese beef-bowl chain owned by Zensho.
- Suki-Ya calls itself a 'House of Hot Pot', with unlimited sliced beef and pork, eight soup bases and a self-service vegetable bar.
- The Singapore outlets serve pork, so they are not halal.
