Best Lontong in Singapore: 13 Best Spots (2026)

Vegetables in coconut curry broth

Lontong in Singapore is compressed rice cakes in sayur lodeh, a coconut-milk vegetable stew, usually served with egg, tau kwa, serondeng and sambal. Some stalls also sell a drier lontong kering with sambal goreng and rendang. Most hawker bowls cost from around $2.50 to $5.50. You will find lontong at Malay breakfast stalls and nasi padang shops across the island, with clusters in the east (Geylang East, Haig Road, Paya Lebar, Changi Village, Tampines) and at central food centres such as Margaret Drive, Albert Centre, Kukoh and Chinatown Complex. It is mainly a breakfast and brunch dish, and the best-known stalls often sell out before noon.

Your questions answered

How much does lontong cost in Singapore?

A hawker bowl of lontong usually costs from around $2.50 to $5.50. The $2.50 Shop is at the low end, and Sinar Harapan charges $5.50 for lontong and $8 for lontong kering with more sides.

What is the difference between lontong and lontong kering?

Standard lontong is rice cakes served in soupy sayur lodeh, a coconut-milk vegetable stew. Lontong kering is a drier version, with the rice cakes served with sambal goreng, rendang and other sides instead of a bowl of gravy. Sinar Harapan and Nusa & Tara sell both.

Is lontong halal?

Lontong is a Malay dish and is often sold by Muslim-run stalls, but most hawker stalls are not MUIS-certified. This guide marks a stall as Muslim-owned only where a source confirms it, and leaves halal status blank otherwise. If certification matters to you, check for the MUIS certificate at the stall.

When is the best time to eat lontong?

Lontong is mainly a breakfast and brunch dish, and many stalls open between 4:30am and 7am. Indonesian Food House closes at 10:30am and Queenstown Lontong often sells out before closing, so go in the morning. Daliman's Corner, Nusa & Tara, Mee+ and Al Haqqani stay open into the evening.

Where is the best area for lontong?

The east has the most choice, with Geylang East, Haig Road, Paya Lebar, Tampines and Changi Village all in this guide. Central options include Margaret Drive, Albert Centre, Kampong Glam, Kukoh and Chinatown Complex.
